Steel Wire Rope Flaw Detection (INTROS Technology)

The INTROS steel wire rope flaw detector enables simultaneous and accurate measurement of Loss of Metallic Area (LMA) and detection of localized outer and inner flaws (LF), including broken wires, broken strands, and pitting corrosion.

The system is capable of inspecting wire ropes at speeds of up to 4 m/s, making it suitable for both production line monitoring and in-service rope condition assessment.

INTROS technology is widely used across critical industries including underground and surface mining, cranes and heavy lifting applications (onshore and offshore), cableways, cable bridges, elevators, guy ropes for flare stacks and masts, as well as overhead transmission lines.

Technology Principle

The system operates based on the Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) principle. Strong permanent magnets are used to magnetically saturate the wire rope under inspection.

Magnetic saturation is essential to achieve high measurement accuracy and sensitivity, allowing reliable detection of both internal and external defects.

The in-house developed Wintros software provides powerful tools for downloading, processing, and analyzing rope inspection data, enabling detailed defect interpretation and reporting.

Wintros RTV offers real-time visualization of inspection traces, making it especially useful for continuous monitoring applications where immediate defect detection is critical.
